1. Cooling Pads Have Become Clogged With Dust

Cooling pads do most of the real work inside an air cooler. Hot air passes through wet pads, water evaporates and the outgoing air becomes cooler. When those pads become clogged, however, the entire process struggles.

Dust, pollen and fine particles gradually settle between the fibres or channels of the pad. Homes near busy roads, construction sites or open plots may notice this problem sooner. The cooler can still sound perfectly normal while producing noticeably warmer air because less air can pass freely through the wet surface.

Removing and gently cleaning reusable pads can improve airflow considerably. A soft brush and clean water usually work better than aggressive scrubbing, which can damage the material. Pads that have hardened, become brittle or developed permanent deposits should be replaced.

4. Dirty Fan Blades Are Reducing Airflow

Fan blades collect far more dirt than they appear to from outside the cooler. During months of regular use, airborne dust settles along the blade edges and surfaces. The layer may look harmless, but it can interfere with airflow and gradually reduce the volume of air moving through the room.

7. The Fan Motor Has Lost Efficiency

Motors endure demanding conditions during summer. A cooler may run for eight, ten or even twelve hours on a particularly hot day. After several seasons, bearings can wear, lubrication can deteriorate and electrical components may lose efficiency.
